Director Statement

Can one person's obvious truth overcome an entire community's shame and judgment to set that person free? In Slightly Dead, Bob Turner returns to his hometown to try to reconcile with his ex-wife Linda after a fling with a much younger woman. What he didn't bargain for was that Linda, ashamed and abandoned, had started making up stories about how Bob didn't just leave her, but died under the most embarrassing circumstances (mostly to make her friends laugh at parties). When she accidentally tells her insurance company that Bob is dead, they start the official paperwork and Linda gets sweet revenge. Bob comes home to find his character assassinated and his life hanging by a thread.

Having worked in the entertainment industry since the 1990s as a performing artist, I’ve always been curious as to what it’s like to create a film in its entirety, and so my wife, Annie Deng, and I decided to try to write, cast, direct, and produce this movie ourselves on a zero budget. Our main goal: to complete the film. We did it! Our first film is in the bag.
