Joshua Andrey A. Doce is a Filipino filmmaker. He began to love filmmaking when he was in high school. In 2019, Joshua Doce made his first directorial debut with his film ‘Jose Maria’ which got as a finalist in the 2019 Cinemalaya Campus Short-Shorts, Bicol region. Doce created several short films that center on narratives about LGBTQIA+ namely Jose Maria (2019), Siya Na Iba Sainda (2021), and The Meeting Host Will Let You In Soon (2022) that are being recognized and awarded by various film festivals in and outside the country. At his age today, Doce is still pursuing his passion for filmmaking.
To live in this diverse world is not easy. It is so diverse that some people can not understand, accept, and respect what it means to be in a different gender spectrum. This is a society where queer people are susceptible to hate, violence, and other gender-based discrimination.
The attacks on LGBTQIA+ members are so rampant that even up to this date these assaults are still repeatedly committed. Despite movements calling for respect for gender diversity, the same issues still arise. Hence, raising the colorful flag of the LGBTQIA+ community in this discriminative society takes bravery and pride.
As part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have always been proud of who I am now. With that, as we address many issues, apart from gender-related ones, that society endures, may this film be our turning point. May communities act with respect to diversity to attain an inclusive society.
