Simizar (50) , a dancer reaching the end of her career. After moving to İstanbul from Azerbaijan at a young age, Simizar made a name for herself in the city's bustling nightlife scene with a dance performance inspired by her homeland. However, as she ages and starts to deal with never before experienced pains in her body; her career, friendships, family and ties to her roots begin to unravel.

Director Biography - Azize Cansu Turan

Azize Cansu TURAN (1987, Turkey) graduated from Visual Communication Design in 2012. Later, she got a master's degree in Directing in Film and Drama in 2016.

Her first short film ''Under Construction'' premiered at the 37th Warsaw Film Festival in 2022.
In 2023, she served as a jury member in the short film section of the 38th Warsaw Film Festival.

She has worked as a director in various commercials and is preparing for a feature film in addition to writing a scripts for documentary and mini series in Istanbul.

Azize Cansu Turan (1987, Türkiye) 2012'de Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Görsel İletişim Tasarımı bölümünden mezun olduktan sonra yüksek lisansını Kadir Has Üniversitesi Film ve Drama bölümünde tamamladı.

İlk kısa filmi ''İnşa Hali'' 2022'de 37. Warsaw Film Festivali'nde dünya prömiyerini yaptı. 2023'de 38. Warsaw Film Festivali'ne kısa film jürisi olarak çağrıldı.

İkinci kısa filmi Simizar'ın ardından uzun metraj hazırlıklarına başladı. Bir yandan İstanbul'da çeşitli reklam filmlerinde yönetmenlik yapmakta ve belgesel ve mini dizi senaryoları yazmaktadır.

Director Statement

After my mother and her family emigrated from Azerbaijan and settled in Turkey, my childhood was spent with their stories of longing for their country. I grew up with Azerbaijani folklore songs. Even after they passed away, I frequently listened to these songs to remember them. I wanted to created the theme of the movie which was inspired by these feelings and their stories.

Annem ve ailesi Azerbaycan'dan göç edip Türkiye'ye yerleştikten sonra, çocukluğum ülkelerine duydukları özlemin hikayeleriyle geçti. Azerbaycan folklor şarkılarıyla büyüdüm. Onlar öldükten sonra bile onları anmak için sık sık bu şarkıları dinledim. Filmin temasını bu duygulardan ve hikayelerinden esinlenerek yaratmak istedim.
