Silent Witness
Silent Witness
ANONYMOUS MOVING IMAGES
a girl walks home alone
she's just about there
as she turns the corner
she freezes in terror
she is witness to a murder
she hides quickly
did the killer see her?
The city lights cast a warm glow on the deserted streets, casting long shadows that danced in the cool night breeze. A young woman hurried home from her late shift at the diner, her footsteps echoing against the pavement. As she rounded a corner, a chilling scene unfolded before her eyes. In the dim light of a nearby alleyway, two figures wrestled, a muffled cry for help echoing through the stillness. Her heart pounded in her chest as she froze, her breath catching in her throat. Fear gripped her as she watched the struggle, her mind racing with a thousand thoughts. She quickly ducked into a nearby doorway, her body trembling as she tried to make herself invisible in the shadows.
She quickly ducked into a nearby doorway, her body trembling as she tried to make herself invisible in the shadows. The struggle continued, a sickening thud echoing through the alley, followed by an abrupt silence. But then, a low, guttural voice broke the stillness, and the woman heard footsteps approaching.
Her heart pounded against her ribs. She pressed herself deeper into the shadows, her breath shallow and rapid. The footsteps stopped directly in front of the doorway. She could hear the heavy breathing, the rustle of clothing. A moment of agonizing silence followed, then the footsteps retreated, disappearing into the alley. This was a warning.
Relief washed over her, but it was short-lived. She knew she couldn't stay there. As soon as she dared, she slipped out of the doorway and began to run, her feet pounding the pavement. She didn't stop until she reached her apartment building, her lungs burning, her body shaking.
Inside, she locked the door, her hands trembling. She peered out the window, scanning the street below. Nothing. But she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She knew the murderer had seen her. He's all over the news and she was the only witness.
