Director Statement

When we set out in a cramped camper van—two of us running cameras, one of us driving, and one of us carrying gear, —we knew we were in for the ride of our lives. Over 14 relentless days, including eight race days that bled from dawn into the early morning hours, we chased Will across three arenas of human endurance: a chilly plunge in beautiful Lake Tahoe, a punishing bike through the Eastern Sierras, and a daunting run at the very feet of Mammoth’s peaks.

Filming was as much a test of our own spirit as it was of Will’s. We lived on the move: swapping lenses on the fly, charging batteries between breaths, and navigating altitude changes from 6,000 to 9,000 feet. Every evening, we’d collapse back into our van, only to rise before first light and pick up the trail again. It was a creative crucible—one that demanded instinct, flexibility, and an unspoken pact among our small team to capture every raw moment.

At the heart of Sierra 914 is Will Turner: a man not born with natural gifts, but an athleticism forged through sheer grit and relentless self-belief. He climbed over 40,000 feet of vertical gain against a razor’s edge of exhaustion, storms, and doubt.

As a filmmaker, I’m drawn to stories of resilience—moments when ordinary people confront their limits and discover new strengths. I wanted the camera to feel like a companion: intimate enough to catch the tremor in a hand, wide enough to capture the sweep of dawn breaking over the peaks. Every cut, every score choice, and every lingering shot of stoic landscapes was guided by one question: what does it take, inside and out, to keep moving when the world seems determined to hold you back? The score rides that tension—each note reminding you that one misstep could end it all.
Yet beyond the adrenaline, this film is a tribute to the unbreakable human spirit.

Will’s journey isn’t just about finishing a race, it’s about choosing to rise every time you fall, to find strength when your body screams no, and to redefine what “possible” means. My hope is that audiences will leave not only with a rush of adrenaline but with a sense that courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s the decision to climb toward purpose in spite of fear.

This film is my invitation to anyone who’s ever wondered what they’re truly capable of when the path looks impossible.
