Shots of emotion...Pink!
During the August 2025 Palio in Siena, photojournalist Tiago Bonilha chooses to document the race “blind”: away from Piazza del Campo, without screens or broadcasts, standing among the contradaioli gathered in front of the Duomo as they await the victorious district’s arrival. In this charged atmosphere, he notices a young woman sitting on the cathedral steps, watching the race on a friend’s phone. Within seconds, her emotions erupt — first in her eyes, then in her movements, then in her voice. Tiago captures the entire sequence, framing the raw moment where photography meets pure feeling. The film tells the story of this encounter: a photographer’s gaze and the surge of emotion that the Palio of Siena awakens, even far from the track and the running horses.

“Scatti d’emozioni… rosa!” is the first film by Luca Bonilha, a young emerging filmmaker driven by curiosity, emotion and an instinctive sense of framing. Raised in a household immersed in photography and documentary work, Luca absorbed the language of images naturally, transforming everyday moments into cinematic narratives.
For this debut short film, he collaborated closely with his father, photographer and director Tiago Bonilha, who guided the process as co-director. The result is an intimate portrait captured with sincerity, delicacy and a genuine eye for human emotion.
“Scatti d’emozioni… rosa!” is my first directorial experience, and it allowed me to participate in the entire creative process for the very first time. Editing the footage, discovering the emotional heartbeat of each moment, and building a narrative from real life felt both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I’m proud of what this short film captures, a fragment of human emotion during the Palio of Siena, and I’m excited about the possibility of sharing this small story with viewers around the world.”
