Wilton Martínez is a visual anthropologist, filmmaker, and founding president of the Center for Visual Anthropology of Peru (CAVP). He has produced acclaimed and award-winning films on topics related to cultural identities, indigenous ethnohistories, human rights, bilingual intercultural education, music, dance, and performance in indigenous communities in Peru, South America, the United States, Sri Lanka. In addition to "Shiringa. Genocide and Resistance in the Amazon," his most recent work on the rubber genocide is "Historias del caucho en la Amazonía peruana" (2016). Other notable works include "Transnational Fiesta: 20 Years Later" (2014) and "Transnational Fiesta: 1992" (1991), two portraits of an Andean migrant community in the United States over the course of two decades. Other productions include “The Author Walks: Felipe Guamán Poma de Ayala” (2011), “Arguedas in Ourselves” (2011), “Dance and the Nation: A DVD Companion” (2009), “Killa lluqsimun” (2007), “Where Our Ancestors Tread” (2006), and “School Education and Indigenous Peoples” (2006). He is currently producing “Why We Dance,” a new documentary about ritual, performance, and healing in post-war Sri Lanka. Wilton holds a PhD in social anthropology and an MA in visual anthropology from the University of Southern California.
