Shadow of Water

It is a short fiction film based on the drought situation that has curbed India due to lack of rainfall and water supply. Riya is seen often making prayers and lighting oil lamp (diya). Her tuition teacher one day sees her painting and asks her about the same. She has painted the pictures and further She describes the horrific story about how her father ended his life as he was not able to pay off his debt due to loss in crops because of no rainfall and water. She dreams of rainfall everyday and she prays for the same.

Director Biography - Angel Tshering

Angel Tshering is a Sikkimese Film Maker based in Mumbai and has been working in this field for the past many years. She started writing at a very young age, when she was in school. Besides writing she has also acted in various short films, music videos and stage plays. There are four short films under her belt as of now as a writer/director and currently on the verge of completing the next one. She has also worked as an Associate Director and a screen play writer for a Nepali Horror featured film titled, "RAHASHYA". Angel also worked as an Assistant Director in the music video called, "I am a Born Dancer" which was extensively shot in Mumbai. There are various music videos that has been written and directed by her.

Director Statement

Shadow of Water is very closed to my heart. Through this short film I have tried to focus the social stigma and issues that is prevailing in the our Indian society. There are thousands of cases where an innocent farmers commits suicide due to the failure of their crops either due to lack of rainfall or scarcity of irrigation. Shadow of Water portrays a situation where a girl Riya dreams of a better time where there are adequate rainfall and no one has to die.
