Director Biography - Claire Louise Huder

Claire Louise Huder is an American filmmaker and actor hailing from Petoskey, MI with a passion for creative expression. After studying opera at Miami University and having the privilege to perform and study in Arezzo, Italy with Oberlin Conservatory, Claire has sought to broaden her endeavors and talents through filmmaking and has found a welcome community in Florida, where she currently resides. She is an advocate for mental health awareness through her active participation with Project Human, Inc. and various blogs, as well as her short stories and films through Cinder Pictures LLC and other projects. She is on a mission to harness filmmaking's limitless potential to communicate our deepest thoughts, inner struggles, and the important messages that we find unable to do so through mere language: first through her debut film “Perception,” her short thrillers "Video Call" highlighting relationship abuse and "Knock, Knock" highlighting the dangers of obsession, and now through "Shadowman" highlighting sibling relationships. Her debut novel 'Dissonance'—with trilogy potential and accompanying feature film script—is also currently seeking literary representation and publication.

Director Statement

As a sibling myself—albeit with the roles of this short film reversed, as I am the older sister to a younger brother—I have wanted to incorporate a sibling relationship story into one of my productions. With the help of the Writer, Jacob Schwartz, this idea came to life with "Shadowman," and I saw it only fitting to put his own talented children in the respective roles of older brother JJ and younger sister Jolene. This short film ironically shines light onto a particular dynamic between such siblings in which one receives most of the attention and the other is ignored; in "Shadowman," this contrasting relationship evolves to the point that it threatens their very reality through the emergence of the Shadowman, thus forcing both siblings to take responsibility for their actions and reconcile their differences. Through its exciting action mixed with childlike magic, I hope that the underlying story of this film can resonate with siblings of all ages.
