Semblance Realism

In a world where art is more than just color on canvas, Ifebunmi Emmanuel Anaiye brings a new dimension to storytelling through his "semblance realism" approach. Based in Nigeria, Ifebunmi creates portraits that not only depict the physical likeness of everyday individuals but also encapsulate their emotional and social challenges. This documentary delves into his artistic philosophy and the diverse techniques he employs to breathe life into his subjects.

Through intimate interviews and captivating visuals, we explore Ifebunmi's daily life, his passion for painting, and his personal connections with his four dogs—Brown, Echo, Marie’s, and Allies. His art is driven by a deep desire to connect with others, transcending cultural boundaries and evoking powerful responses from viewers and collectors alike.

The film also highlights Ifebunmi's charitable endeavor, Project 100, which aims to create and sell 100 artworks to fund education for African children who are deprived of schooling. By purchasing these unique pieces, supporters contribute to a cause that seeks to make a tangible difference in these children’s lives.

As Ifebunmi prepares for future exhibitions and auctions, his vision extends beyond individual success. He dreams of reigniting artistic passion in children, believing that every child is an innate artist waiting to be discovered. This documentary captures his dedication to art as a universal language and his relentless pursuit to make a lasting impact on both his community and the world at large.

Director Statement

In creating this documentary, I wanted to showcase Ifebunmi Emmanuel Anaiye’s unique art style, "Semblance Realism," and his impactful work with Project 100. I was inspired by how Ifebunmi uses art not just for self-expression, but also to drive social change.

I aimed to tell a story that shows Ifebunmi’s artistic journey and his dedication to helping children through education. By highlighting his creative process, his connection with his four dogs, and his charity work, I wanted to show how art can solve community problems.

This film reflects the theme "making the invisible visible" by revealing the often-hidden role of artists in creating social change. It shows the unseen effects of Ifebunmi’s art on the art world and on African children’s lives. I hope this documentary makes the power of art clear and encourages others to support meaningful causes.
