Sara L. Roberts is a Franco-British screenwriter with a global outlook who enjoys working collaboratively. She is especially interested in writing about women’s stories from a feminist angle, exploring themes such as violence against women, nature and the dehumanising effects of institutions. She likes to explore the dynamics of dysfunctional relationships and families, as well as broader societal issues.
A versatile writer, Sara has had her prose writing published in a number of journals and magazines, both online and in print. Sara's screenplays have placed in numerous competitions and film festivals, both in the UK and the US.
In January 2024, Sara's short psychological horror film, Seed, was placed in Coverfly’s ‘Top 20 of the Month’ and on the Red List. In February, Seed was nominated for Best Script by the New York Independent Cinema Awards, and in June was selected as Finalist in The Film Fund narrative short competition. The film was shot in the UK in June 2024 and is currently in post-production.
'Seed' is a short film that explores the impact that fertility issues can have on mental health. I wanted to use the genre of pschological horror as a tool here to explore this topic through this female-centric story. I was partly inspired by the iconic film 'Rosemary's Baby' and wanted to recreate some of the feeling of fear and isolation from that movie, and the way the audience is invited to question the protagonist's perception of reality.
