Director Statement

See The City was filmed in and around Victoria and Vancouver, BC, Canada. Seven locations and shot in three days. Made up of all female producers (Ana-Maria Butcura, Beverley Dondale, Patsy Tuba and myself), female director (myself), female writers (Patsy Tuba and myself), female cinematographer (Kelly Conlin), and female editor (Kelly Conlin). Making films that foster conversation and thought has always been a driving force behind the films I choose to make. I am a filmmaker but I am also a counsellor who works in the field of exploitation prevention so I tend to gravitate to films that are not only interesting to look at but are thoughtful or people can connect to emotionally. Making films with a cast (and crew) rich in diversity has also always been a consistent priority of mine, highlighting characters that are reachable, familiar, or interesting. I am also so impressed once again with our composer (who I collaborate with on almost all my films), Adrian Bent.
SEE THE CITY is about a woman who wants what we all want; an opportunity to go after her dreams. This film, while not based on any specific individual may feel familiar. A woman leaving home to chase an adventure and the adversity that comes with unfamiliar landscapes and individuals with nefarious intentions.
My hope is that audiences leave with an increased understanding and awareness and a desire to advocate for support and change.
