Director Biography - John Derrick Goze

John Derrick Goze, formerly known as Frederick C.G. Borromeo, is a 22-year-old Filipino amateur filmmaker and video game developer who is noted for experimental projects made entirely in RPG Maker MV engine since his early career of 2019. He also a dubber of comic dubs, most primarily in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, under his YouTube channel "Moonwriter" to financially support his family.

Director Statement

I was making a short film made primarily in RPG Maker MV engine for my school film festival until the end of the development process but it was eventually cancelled for some reasons.

During the process, I was thinking the romantic story about the fresh-start relationship between the two main characters, both were romantically involved. One of them had a first relationship in the past was severe, leaving him/her heartbroken.

The story and concept is very simple, but hiring voice actors is not enough. So, I decided to make an old film style with choppy frame rates like many early silent films.

The two characters were partially named after the Cartoon Network series, Steven Universe, and were inspired by Michael Haneke's one of filmmaking trademarks: The couple "George and Anne" in every film he developed. The film was also inspired by silent films and 2000s Filipino romance films.

The film is very tough enough to develop myself in two or three weeks, from beginning to end.
