Writer Biography - Grasie Mercedes

Grasie Mercedes is a first-generation Afro-Dominican writer and filmmaker from New York City, passionate about telling stories that explore identity, belonging, and the emotional complexity of relationships. Her work centers the Latino experience, with a focus on narratives often underrepresented in mainstream media.

She was a staff writer on NBC’s Perfect Harmony and recently completed the 2025 NHMC Series Scriptwriters Program. Her entry pilot, Gracie the Gringa, was inspired by her lived experience growing up Afro-Latina and never quite fitting in, but always trying.

Grasie’s dark comedy short Just the Two of Us won the Audience Award at the 2021 Atlanta Film Festival, and her pandemic-inspired short Postmate was featured on American Airlines flights from 2022 to 2023.

Her background as an actress—including her Imagen-nominated performance as Fay on NBC’s Grand Crew—informs her writing process, allowing her to craft emotionally rich characters and authentic dialogue.

Grasie is committed to breaking down systemic barriers in television and creating stories that reflect the depth, humor, and humanity of Latino communities.
