Experiencing Interruptions?

Science for All

Visakhapatnam, also called Vizag, is just one of the places where citizens are actively contributing to scientific research. And this hobby is having real world impacts. It’s expanding our understanding of the range and threats to plants and animals worldwide. In 2022 alone, scientists published more than 800 studies using data that nature enthusiasts helped collect on citizen science apps like iNaturalist and eBird. In this documentary, we follow the stories of citizen scientists and researchers working to fill gaps in data.

Director Biography - Manon Verchot, Sanshey Biswas

Manon Verchot and Sanshey Biswas met in the newsroom of India's second largest newspaper, the Hindustan Times, back in 2017. They quickly found that they enjoyed making documentaries together and they've been inseparable ever since. They married in early 2019.

It was on one of their visits to Visakhapatnam, where Sanshey's parents live, that they learned about the efforts going into documenting the biodiversity of this eastern coastal town. What started as one intertidal walk became a a story about how citizens all over the world are making major contributions to science.
