Director Statement

This project was my one of my most exciting experiences to date. Not only we had the opportunity to get creative with the cinematic VR medium, but it all served a greater purpose. Working with Säye was an amazing feat; he is an artist with a mission and the song explores taboo topics of ADHD and mental health, which are especially unheard of within the Iranian community. Utilizing the 360 video format, we created a piece that simulates the ADHD experience while bringing the song to life in a fun, colourful way. Although the song is in Farsi, the experiential nature of the 360/VR format makes it a compelling watch for any viewer, not to mention the catchy chorus that gets anyone hooked whether or not you understand the language.

The video makes use of a variety of set pieces and aesthetics that seamlessly blend its storytelling with the 360 medium, bringing us in and out of reality throughout: 20th century American science fiction, space and abstract imagery, a mundane medical office, a hyper-stylized lounge with pixel tube lighting that references modern music videos, a contemporary Toronto skyline setting, and last but not least, cartoons of the Iranian "Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults", which made a major cultural impact in children’s entertainment of 1970s Iran.

With this video we aimed to create a new type of 360 video experience that takes the learnings of the industry within the past 10 years forward to make great use of the medium, while keeping it accessible to anyone with or without a VR headset. I hope on top of everything the video aspires to achieve, it can start a new wave of 360 music videos and storytelling.
