Medical doctor/ filmmaker, Zee graduated from medical school at the age of 26. After only a year of practice he was appointed the Resident Physician at a Hospital Burn Unit in the Pakistan countryside. Dr. Zee soon found that many of his burn patients had tragically set fire to themselves to avoid punishment by hostile in-laws.. Per Zee, women would die in his ward everyday and that is what shifted his focus. He was determined to find a way to help these vulnerable women. Zee came to USA 20 years ago and started to pursue his passion of filmmaking along with medicine. Gender Empowerment is Zee's inspiration for his films. He has won many awards in film festivals for his work.
Doctor Zee dedicates his latest film, “San Francisco Cowboy”, a love story to the people of the city of San Francisco, that has welcomed him with open arms. Doctor Zee’s characters explore child labor, belief and religion, reproductive rights, and cultural customs vs. modernity, LGBTQ issues with a mix of comedy, romance and drama.
In “San Francisco Cowboy”, I seek to create awareness that abortion rights are important to young women. When you are a pregnant teenager and lack the education and guidance in life, you are bringing into the world a human being which will not be of full potential. It’s better to abort the baby because you are not providing a suitable environment for the newborn to become a decent human being.
The character Paris finds herself in just that situation when she was a teenager. Teenage pregnancy destroys her life as she makes a wrong decision at a pivotal moment in her educational and social development. She resorts to prostitution as her only means of survival. In the spirit of “Taxi Driver” the film explores teenage prostitution and abortion in today’s San Francisco.
