DATA PICTURES is pleased and honored to show SAMBOLERO by João Donato.

Donato as well as a friend of João Gilberto, Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, the main exponents of “Bossa Nova“, brought the fusion of Jazz with Latin Music incorporating Afro-Cuban musicality and beat to Jazz. He worked with myths like Dolores Duran, Tom Jobim, Nelson Riddle, Bud Shank and Chet Baker.
Along with Tom Jobim, João Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Eumir Deodato and Sérgio Mendes made Brazil really internationally recognized for its music.

SAMBOLERO was recorded in 2010 and received LATIN GRAMMY FOR BEST LATIN JAZZ ALBUM.

The unpublished videos were made during the recording of the CD in the studio with a team of stars who brought together the legendary drummer Robertinho Silva who worked 26 years with Milton Nascimento creating beats that entered our affective musical memory with the classics of “Clube da Esquina” and he played with musicians of the suit of Toninho Horta, Gilberto Gil, Paulo Moura, Gal Costa, Airto Moreira, Egberto Gismonti, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, George Duke, Sarah Vaughan and George Benson among others. The elegant double bass by Luíz Alves who along with Robertinho was one of the founders of “Som Imaginário” and played with Chico Buarque, Egberto Gismonti, Luizinho Eça in addition to the miners Nelson Angelo, Beto Guedes, Lo Borges and Milton Nascimento among more than 140 albums who recorded with several musicians. And percussion wizard Sidinho Moreira who played with big names like Chico Buarque, Tim Maia, Ney Matogrosso, Marcelo D2, Ed Motta, Ivan Lins, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Julio Iglesias, Paul Simon and Sting.

The repertoire brings partnerships between João Donato and Carmem Costa, Paulo Sergio Valle, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso among others and has the production and musical direction of João Samuel who has in his baggage the production of pearls from MPB such as the CD Cape Horn by Toninho Horta and Arismar do Espírito Santo.

With the direction, photography and editing by Andre Schultz and Denise Schultz the recording has an almost documentary style, where the camera captures unique images of the exact moment of recording the tracks of the album, showing a rare moment in the intimacy of the musicians in the recording studio.

For this debut we prepared the song AMAZONAS that brings the magic of the Amazon Forest with its rhythm and noises overflowing like a “sound and musical river”.

It is with great pride for the results reached and admiration for these fantastic artists, that we would like to present these images… they are part of two of our works that we created with a lot of love and dedication with the producer João Samuel, practically in sequence, Cape Horn and Sambolero. They have the same DNA, showing artists in the studio, during the moments that people don’t have the opportunity to see, only to listen to.
