Experiencing Interruptions?

Salt

Muhsin realizes that a simple oversight—trying to add salt to his meal during an ordinary moment of daily life—has transported him back to his childhood memories. The absence of salt ceases to be merely a kitchen detail; it becomes a turning point that triggers past scenes in his memory involving his mother and neighbors. Flipping back and forth between the past and the present, Muhsin recalls the times as a child when his mother sent him to ask the neighbor for salt. This journey became an experience where feelings of both shame and social shyness first took shape. When he knocks on the same door as an adult, the rejection he faces intertwines with his childhood memory in his mind. The film explores how Muhsin confronts modern-day neighborly relationships, starting from a simple “salt” shortage. Through a small object of daily life, the film explores belonging, shame, and how the past shapes human behavior. In the end, the now-defunct salt shaker and the spoiled food remain as a metaphor for this emotional void that time cannot resolve.
