Sacred Love in a Fleeting Eternity is an experimental short film that traces the
soul-bond between Timotius Malaka Benotenoyo and Marta Carolijn Lucille—
two beings whose fates are intertwined yet separated by the mysterious
passage of time. The film is divided into three chapters, each revealing essential
fragments of their love story, one that transcends the boundaries of both the
physical world and time itself.

Director Biography - Oscar Satria Wibowo

Oscar Satria, born in Surakarta in 2006 is a writer, animator, and independent filmmaker
whose work explores the intersections of human connection, inner solitude, and existential
reflection. With a background in animation and visual arts, he brings a strong visual
sensitivity to his storytelling, while his passion for literature and poetry shapes his intimate
and metaphorical narrative style.
His works often dwell on themes of love, loss, solitude, and mortality, the four pillars of his
artistic pursuit. Through a poetic approach, he creates cinematic experiences that feel more
like meditations or prayers rather than mere entertainment.
The short film Sacred Love in a Fleeting Eternity (Cinta Dalam Keabadian Yang Fana) is part of
his broader creative journey, connected to his poetry manuscript of the same title and his
upcoming novel About You, Love, Solitude, and Death. Through cinema, he seeks to record
the emotional pulse of his time while offering audiences a space to reflect on the meaning of
life, love, and impermanence.

Director Statement

Sacred Love in a Fleeting Eternity was created as part of my personal mission to
archive stories, reflections, and fragments of thought that I believe define my
journey toward what I call “The Journal Toward the Most Beautiful Days.” At its
core, the film is an attempt to embrace the fleeting nature of life, to celebrate
love in its most tender forms, to find serenity within solitude, and to prepare, with
dignity, for the inevitability of death.
The film is deeply personal. It emerges from my own experiences of encounters,
loss, and regret, yet it is also interwoven with social observations, historical
fragments, and literary influences. In this way, it seeks to be both intimate and
universal. Through its poetic visuals and theatrical dialogue, the work becomes
less about plot and more about the essence of human connection.
The visual language of the film draws inspiration from works such as La La Land,
500 Days of Summer, Before Sunrise, Columbus, Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind, and Grave of the Fireflies. Yet, rather than imitation, it strives to
distill these references into something contemplative, quiet, and lyrical.
If today were your last day to live, what meaning of life, love, and death would
you leave behind for others? This question drives the emotional heart of the film,
one that I hope resonates long after the screen fades to black.
Ultimately, this film is not only a standalone piece but also a bridge, connecting
my poetry manuscript Sacred Love in a Fleeting Eternity with my upcoming novel
About You, Love, Solitude, and Death. In a world shaken by crises of love, mental
health, and uncertainty, I see cinema as both a witness and a balm, offering
reflection, resonance, and perhaps a quiet consolation.
