STAR CHiLD

After struggling to carry a baby to full-term, middle-aged Cara is scared to lose the family she’s been longing for. 8 years after a traumatic hospital birth, nightmares & visions of life-threatening memories still haunt her, ever more frequently.

Cara's attentive husband, Martin, is forced to watch their family falling apart. Again. Never having survived childbirth, Cara is completely unaware that their entire family life has been created by their gifted child, Fin’s reality-altering imagination.

A heart-filled story set in an identifiable near-future world; a philosophical drama with a sci-fi overtone.

Writer Statement

Certainly, it is unusual to have a woman in mid-life as a protagonist.

I was not in my teens, 20s or 30s when I gave birth; I was a ‘geriatric mother’! I wanted to make the point that not all mothers are facing the 'empty nest' or becoming grandparents in their 40s and 50s.

My son was very much planned. Both my husband and I yearned for a child. Ultimately, nothing prepared me for how much I would love my son when he was born. And it is the story of that magic, that deep love for another human being, that I wanted to tell.
