Director Statement

Every film faces an uphill battle in getting made, but the circumstances surrounding the making of "SOON" seemed impossible to overcome. "SOON" was to reunite the entire (meager) cast and crew of my first film "Last Testament" - myself, my creative partner Alec Naffziger, and my brother-in-law Jordan Luker behind the camera, with actors Dominick Alesia, Anna Roemer, and Rima Sabal in front of the camera. While "Last Testament" was intentionally narrow in its focus, "SOON" was to be a big leap forward in every facet and I needed all hands on deck. But then tragedy struck.

About 90 days before production was set to commence, Alec Naffziger - my best friend, college roommate, and creative partner - unexpectedly passed away at the age of 34. Working with him on "Last Testament" was a magical experience, it was like we were communicating without having to speak. Alec was deeply involved in every stage of that movie, and I couldn't imagine making "SOON" without him... especially as I was (and continue) mourning him. I was fortunate enough to be with him in the hospital up until he passed, and one of the promises I made to him was that I wouldn't give up and make the movie for him.

Filming and editing "SOON" was extremely difficult without him, but it also helped in my healing process. I had to make the movie not just because of my promise, but because I needed something positive to come out of all that pain. I needed to do something that Alec would be proud of, and that would honor his memory.

This is for Alec <3
