Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and raised in Miami, FL, Valentino Dors has always had a passion for visual storytelling, one that he honed through a self-taught journey. He began his career in the fast-paced world of music videos, developing a distinctive style by experimenting with angles and color grading.
His background in hyper-edited music videos, where he worked with renowned artists such as Kodak Black, Trippie Redd, and Lil Tecca, taught him to prioritize dynamic visuals and impactful narrative moments. Valentino’s handheld filming technique and his ability to craft visually immersive stories have become signature aspects of his work, especially as he transitions into feature filmmaking.
Valentino's career has seen notable highlights, including receiving a prestigious RIAA plaque for his work as creative director on Kodak Black’s Dying to Live album, where he filmed all of his videos and homecoming documentary series. His work has been featured on major platforms such as VH1, BET, and MTV, further establishing his presence in the industry. Currently, he’s preparing for a Grammy nomination with notable Compton legends for their latest project, which has garnered considerable attention in the music and film communities.
Where do I begin with Shore Gore? The idea came to me unexpectedly after seeing an Instagram ad for Jakob Owens’ 2024 Horror Short Film Contest. Inspiration struck, and I quickly jotted down a few ideas on my phone—before I knew it, the concept was born.
Originally, we planned to start filming in the first week of October, but nature had other plans. With hurricane after hurricane hitting Florida, we couldn’t begin shooting until October 12th, giving us just over a week before the contest’s October 20th deadline. The first day of shooting was rough—strong winds and choppy waves from Hurricane Milton’s impact on Northern Florida forced us to scrap our shots and try again on day two.
Our final day on the beach was a race against time. From midnight until 7 AM, we filmed relentlessly, battling the elements. Mother Nature and Father Time definitely weren’t on our side—I had no idea just how fast a sunrise could happen! But despite the challenges, we made it work.
I couldn’t have asked for a better crew. Coming from the fast-paced world of music videos, where everything is typically shot in a single day, I challenged each of my team members to push their creativity beyond the usual. Together, we used our unique skill sets to bring this film to life, turning Shore Gore into something dark yet vividly colorful.
This project is just the beginning for me. While Shore Gore has been an incredible experience, the journey ahead feels endless, and the finish line remains far out of reach.
