Stormi Maya is a Hip-Hop artist, actress, and director. She brings her own stories and experiences from inner-city life and the music industry into her films. From Bronx New York, she adds that flair and culture in her projects and is a big fan of realism, capturing real personalities and rawness. At only 25 years old, Shark is her first feature film as a director.
We need more Black directors. We need more female directors. I am both. I represent a lost voice. Shark is a Hip Hop movie filled with comedy and drama, I am a person who sees the humor in. everyday life and made sure to include that subtle daily laugh In my film. I learned so much during this movie . It was a hard process for me as a first time director and screenwriter. I started filming for Shark In 2018, it took us two years to complete, and I am happy I took my time to release it. It Reminds me of the 90s and early 2000s, the black movies I grew up on - Like "Friday" and "Brown Sugar". I kept a lot of culture and realness within the film. The movie was filmed throughout New York, Virginia, Los Angeles, Miami and Montreal Canada. The film is full of up and coming HipHop artist and our soundtrack is 100% independent artist submissions.
