Experiencing Interruptions?

SEED BOOM

What would you save, between a man and a tree?
In the age of global warming, there is no place where the usual expectations of human life are not questioned.
This movie is a picture of Senegal as a country of struggles. But it is also the country of activists who work hard to make climate change an opportunity for thinking about our way of being human.

If you had to choose between a man and a tree, what would you save?

This is the question we asked ourselves while we were writing this film.

If it was not possible to shift the point of view from humans to plants, we would call into question human privileges over nature.

Starting from this paradox, we moved to Senegal. We chose this country because of its attitude to fight.
The fight ("la lutte") is a very important traditional sport for the country. We would use it as a metaphor to link with other fights.

Senegal is an area of the planet that knows a lot about environmental injustices but has preserved a special relationship with nature.

We discovered mature and innovative thinking among its young activists. Most of them refuse the rhetoric of the fight when talking about climate change. They say: There is no fight against nature, there is just a lot of work to do. If we don't work hard for that, we will disappear.

The metaphor we start with has been destroyed by our characters. As authors, we started thinking differently in the field. The magic of documentary.

Generally, we are accustomed to starting from a theoric approach and coming to a practical solution. We usually say first: How to fight? and then: Fight!
In this project, we recorded the opposite path: from struggle to thinking.

The camera is placed mainly as an observer, with the exception of the testimonies of our characters. One of them, a 21-year-old woman, told us her point of view about climate change as she was telling a fairytale. We kept her voice as a voice-over and "fil rouge" of the editing.
