SAHARA FONZIE

SAHARA FONZIE is one of my poems that I have adapted to film. Similar to JURASSIC AGGRESSIVE, I wrote it during a specific time in my life when I was wrestling with the human existence. It deals with the fear of losing someone and the clarity that can come from heat. Rediscovering this poem that I wrote many years ago, re-reading it, and creating film to further its meaning, has taught me a lot about who I was when I wrote it and who I am now. Some things have changed but my core feeling remains the same. Sometimes what destroys us can transform us. Working with the elements of fire and water, this poem uses an extended metaphor of tanning, which involves soaking up energy, but over time, it can damage. It is an attempt to explain how someone’s health is deteriorating and the enlightenment and understanding that comes with the transition from this life to the next. It is about watching someone slip away and a desperate attempt to keep them on this earth, even if it is only for a little longer.
