Running a Little Late
What's the weirdest excuse you've come up with for being late?
In this edition of the film, the artist revisits her most-trodden commute routes in Dalston, London during her early days as a stranger on a foreign land. Masked by absurdity and humour, she dives deep into the feeling of out-of-place, alienation, and the urge to scramble off the urban grid and social clock for a moment of escape. Every “running late“ journey becomes a crevice through the mundane.
Running A Little Late is a series of mock-vlog styled film playing twists and turns with the dubiety of liveness and witnessing. Set up as a faux live stream, it asks viewers to follow the camera girl’s hurried journey from the train station to the theatre stage as she is “late for her appearance”, which quickly unfolds itself into comically artificial urban realities. Part of the footage is generated by the now vintage AI: StyleGAN.

Flo Yuting Zhu is a Chinese mixed-media performance artist, who seeks translations of live presence in digital moving images, AI algorithms, and shared experiences. Her works observe and question layers of witnessing, cross-examining the mundane in a human-data co-habitat. Her tone of voice, while often absurd and light-hearted, is deeply rooted in verbatim materials and raw emotional responses.
