Writer Biography - Macee Binns

Macee Binns is a multifaceted artist with years of experience working both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. While living in Hollywood, she’s earned a stellar reputation as an award-winning writer and casting director.

As a casting director, Macee has brought more than 300 commercials, films, reality shows, documentaries, music videos, live events, and print campaigns to life for global brands like Marc Jacobs, Hyundai, Netflix, Crayola, Nike, H&M, Vice, Starbucks, and Disney.

In 2024, Macee took the leap into entrepreneurship by co-founding Black Sheep Casting with her longtime partners Fernanda Chaves and Mercedes Manning. Black Sheep Casting has already made a powerful impact, with work featured during the Super Bowl and at the Cannes Film Festival—garnering multiple awards. One of their standout achievements, casting Cetaphil’s Swiftie-themed Super Bowl spot, “Game Time Glow,” which was celebrated as the Most Emotional Ad of the Night by Vogue, The Hollywood Reporter, Us Weekly, Time Magazine, and Variety.

As a screenwriter, Macee is known for developing edgy, boundary-defying narratives driven by distinctive female protagonists. Her standout script, Hand Twins—a fearless, female-led romantic dramedy—challenged conventions and earned 17 screenwriting accolades, including winning Best Feature Screenplay at the 2022 California Women’s Film Festival and the 2022 First Women’s Film Festival. It also gained notoriety by placing as a Semifinalist in the prestigious 2022 ScreenCraft Film Fund Feature Competition (judged by Mark Duplass) and as a Finalist at the 2021 Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards. It racked up additional Semifinalist honors at the 2022 Scriptapalooza Screenplay Competition, the 2021 Scriptation Showcase, and the 2022 Filmmatic Drama Screenplay Awards. Hand Twins continued its success by earning Quarterfinalist titles at the 2024 Pitch to Page Comedy Screenwriting Contest and the 2022 Richmond International Film Festival, as well as being named a Preliminary Finalist at the 2022 Creative World Awards. It also received Official Selection recognition from numerous festivals and ranked in the top 4% of all 293,122 scripts on Coverfly.

Macee recently completed her latest screenplay, The Pyramid Scheme—a daring, female ensemble revenge flick co-written with Fernanda Chaves. This gripping psychological thriller blends dark humor with horror to deliver a sharp critique of misogyny in today's society. The script has already been well received and was recently named a Semifinalist in InkTip's 2025 Pitch to Page Feature Screenwriting Contest.

Beyond screenwriting, Macee is also a celebrated playwright, with her works gracing the stages of theaters across the U.S. In 2014, her short film script Row 28 won Best Short at the Hollywood Screenplay Contest, and its stage adaptation was later published by JAC Publishing & Promotions. Monologues from her original play Stone Cold Sober were selected by Smith & Kraus Publishers for inclusion in their popular anthology book series The Best Women’s Stage Monologues of 2017. In 2018, Heuer Publishing acquired her comedic one-act Candi With An I and featured it in their Catalog for the Performing Arts.

Macee’s passion for storytelling also extends to journalism. She has worked as an editorial content writer for popular media outlets including TheRichest, Ranker, and TopBuzz, where several of her articles went viral, attracting over 3 million views. She also demonstrated her flair for journalism during a two-year stint working as a general assignment reporter for The Canyon News in Los Angeles.

In 2023, Macee launched the B!tchFest Film Festival & Screenplay Contest—an international celebration of women and LGBTQIA+ creators in film and TV. This groundbreaking event is helping pave the way for a more inclusive entertainment industry by proudly showcasing a variety of films and scripts crafted by the most badass women and LGBTQIA+ talent in the industry.
