Patrick Sheard is a British filmmaker and the founder of Night Mail, an award-winning independent production company based in the North West of England. His films challenge conventional storytelling by embracing fragmentation and exploring the fluidity of meaning. Through this, he invites audiences to reflect on the very form of the narrative, fostering a deeper contemplation of the essence of both cinema and storytelling.
Patrick holdโs a first-class Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Film Studies and is a multidisciplinary visual artist with a profound passion for film history and experimental cinema. His artistic practice is primarily centred on the creation of short films, in which he has assumed various roles, including director, writer, editor, and director of photography for projects such as Roundabout (2024), Streetlands (2023), and The Unchanging Sea (2022). In addition to his work in film, he has produced immersive art installations, including Phantoms of Phosphor, an exploration of the spectrality of rave culture.
At present, he is the founder and director of Night Mail, a production company dedicated to nurturing a vibrant film industry in the North-West.
โRoundabout serves as an introspection of the universal experience that involves finding your feet in the adult world. Careers, relationships, art, and mistakes - all components that make up the fictional world of Roundabout, as well as our own. Night Mail Productionโs latest cinematic endeavour features the inclusion of artistic portrayals of romantic couples and the difficulties that it comes with showing that, whether itโs in a picture, painting, or film.โ
