As a big fan of genre-mashing and the exciting potential it holds, my goal for Rotten Shadows was to create a genre combo that felt oh so right but seemed virtually untapped: horror and noir. Not only are these genres two of my favorites, but they compliment each other beautifully with their tendencies towards moody darkness and spiraling danger. The idea soon became to take the familiar story of a haunted house and paint a thick coat of noir conventions over it, transforming the tale into something fresh in the process. The obsessive private investigator became a paranormal investigator, and the alluring femme fatal took the form of the house itself. And of course, it wouldn't be horror OR noir without some good ol' fashioned murder.
