Director Biography - Reem Morsi

Reem Morsi is a writer/director with a diverse career, from professional scuba diver/underwater photographer to human rights work at the United Nations and many international organizations in Thailand, the Middle East & North Africa, Kosovo and other parts of the world to becoming a writer/director, her lifelong passion. She holds an MA in filmmaking at the London Film School (London, UK), a Masters of International Law (LLM) at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). Reem’s international work has exposed her to many cultures and provided her with a unique understanding of the human experience in war and peace situations and hence her scripts have a lot of basis in reality. Reem also writes comedy, and her first feature script (currently at an early stage of development) is an absurd comedy set between Canada and Egypt.

Morsi’s film credits include “Their Feast” (Cannes Short Film Corner, TIFF, BBC Film Festival, Cine Sud), “The Path” (screened at various film venues) “Nostalgia” (screened at Women In Film and TV Fest/ Vancouver), among others. Morsi also wrote and directed “The Door” produced by CFC and had its world premier at Whistler Film Festival 2016 and starting its festival tour now.

Morsi’s first feature script “Bootleg” received development funding at the San Francisco Film Society March 2016 and is currently at an early stage of development. Morsi also won first place for her short script “Show & Tell” at the WIFT/BravoFact pitch competition 2016. Currently “Show & Tell” is starting its festival tour and was well received by BravoFact. Reem was also selected as a participant at the TIFF Talent Lab for September 2016. Morsi has also taught film at the Vancouver Art Institute for two terms before moving to Toronto to join the Canadian Film Centre.
