Director Biography - Heather Barette

Heather Barette is a comedic actress and television writer who has a strong background in theatre, sketch comedy and sports journalism. She is from Los Angeles, CA and in her spare time enjoys reading, kickboxing and pretending she didn't peak in middle school.

Heather is also a hardy dog lover, a passionate baker -- particularly of delicious breads and cakes -- and a horror movie buff, no matter how much they may make her urinate herself. She grew up a huge sports fan, and her obsession with the Dodgers, Lakers and Rams often toes the line of toxic. She graduated as an Economics major from UC Santa Barbara, and never thought she would go down this Hollywood road, but wouldn't have it any other way. Heather formed Funny House Productions with Christi Pedigo in 2022. "Ronnie & Terry: Inside the V.V.A." is their first co-created project. Heather (Ronnie) wrote, directed, and created original music for the series.

Director Statement

From Technical Director Christi Pedigo: This first project for Funny House Productions is a special one. Heather and I met in an online acting class during the pandemic. We lived over 40 miles away from each other but felt we could create something unique despite our limitations. We filmed the whole project on our cellphones without ever being in the same physical location; we used zoom on our computers to communicate while filming. We didn't even meet in person until we had already shot several episodes! I was also going through a breast cancer scare that I was worried would require surgery, so I told Heather that I would prefer it if we kept the shots tight, just in case. Heather was compassionate and sensitive to my request and we both breathed a sigh of relief when I didn't need surgery. The inspiration for our series came while watching the Disney+ Marvel show Loki. I noticed that there were a lot of men and women in the background at desks in the scenes that took place at the TVA (Time Variance Authority). In the Marvel comics, these workers were all men, dressed the same, without faces. Neither the show, nor the comics, ever focused on the lives of these workers, and I just kept thinking, "Who are they?”. When I brought Heather a vague idea of what I wanted to do, I knew her witty writing would create a fun world, but her scripts exceeded my wildest dreams. What we lacked in budget or location, we more than made up for with relatable, hilarious characters and a fun story arc that leaves the audience wanting more. More than anything, we hope this story of friendship and adventure touches our audience and inspires them to go out of their way to look out for each other. And maybe, just maybe, these good deeds will help change our timeline for the better!
