Romy Tschopp - Rising Beyond Limits

In this moving documentary, the reporter accompanies Romy Tschopp, an extraordinary snowboarder from Switzerland, on her inspiring journey from the snow back to the snow. Romy was born with an open spine, spina bifida, and is often dependent on a wheelchair in everyday life. Nevertheless, she is the first Swiss snowboarder to qualify for the Paralympics and won silver at the World Championships in La Molina.
After a serious bladder operation in May 2023 and several months of rehabilitation, Romy faces a huge challenge: returning to the piste. The film shows her unwavering will and immense motivation to get back to the top of the sport despite all the adversity.
How does Romy manage to motivate herself again and again and fight hard for months for her comeback? What hurdles does she have to overcome? And what can people without disabilities learn from her journey?

Flavia Reinhard was born in 1995 in Bern, Switzerland.

She grew up in Kallnach and completed her secondary education at Hofwil Gymnasium (Münchenbuchsee, BE) in 2014, with a focus on visual arts. In 2015, she attended the Foundation Course in Design in Bern and went on to study Cast / Audiovisual Media at the Zurich University of the Arts from 2016 to 2020.

Already during her studies, Flavia established herself as an independent video producer, gaining attention with web series such as Lit(t)erweise, known for its original storytelling and creative execution. The series was featured at international film festivals and received several awards.

After graduating, she played a key role in developing the platform SRF We, Myself & Why, where she created and produced innovative content aimed at a young audience.

In addition to working for institutions like Switzerland Tourism, NZZ, the City of Zurich, and Migros, she has also realized personal projects, continuing to refine her distinctive style and storytelling approach.

Flavia’s filmmaking is marked by a sensitivity to visual aesthetics and emotional depth. Her work focuses on exploring social themes, and she is known for her ability to tell intimate stories with authenticity. Her films have been featured on various platforms and have received international recognition for their artistic quality.

Flavia Reinhard wurde 1995 in Bern geboren.

Aufgewachsen in Kallnach absolvierte sie das Gymnasiums Hofwil (Münchenbuchsee, BE) 2014 mit Schwerpunkt bildnerisches Gestalten, besuchte den Vorkurs für Gestaltung 2015 in Bern und studierte von 2016 bis 2020 Cast / Audiovisual Media an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.

Bereits während des Studiums etablierte sich Flavia als selbständige Videoproduzentin unter anderem mit Webserien wie Lit(t)erweise, die durch ihre originelle Erzählweise und kreative Umsetzung Aufmerksamkeit erregte und international an Filmfestivals ausgezeichnet wurde.

Im Anschluss an das Studium war sie massgeblich an der Entwicklung der Plattform SRF We, Myself & Why beteiligt, wo sie innovative Inhalte für ein junges Publikum konzipierte und umsetzte.

Neben ihrer Arbeit für Institutionen wie Schweiz Tourismus, NZZ, Stadt Zürich und Migros, hat sie auch eigene Projekte realisiert, bei denen sie einen unverwechselbaren Stil und ihre Erzählkunst weiterentwickelte.

Being able to accompany and film Romy so closely over an extended period of time was not only a great honor, but also a deeply formative and enriching experience. Witnessing her daily life, the challenges she faces, and her unwavering determination gave me new perspectives – not just on sports, but on life itself.

Despite the differences in our life circumstances, I often felt a deep connection with Romy. Her strength, her sense of humor, and her relentless willpower moved and impressed me deeply. This closeness allowed me to tell her story with the greatest possible authenticity and sensitivity.

"Romy: Rising Beyond Limits" is not just a film about athletic achievement, but a testament to what is possible when you truly believe in yourself. I am grateful to have been part of this journey and hope that Romy’s story will inspire others as much as it has inspired me.

Romy über einen längeren Zeitraum so nah begleiten und filmen zu dürfen, war für mich nicht nur eine große Ehre, sondern auch eine zutiefst prägende und bereichernde Erfahrung.
