Director Statement

Romancing Sydney was conceived in 2010, and it was originally called "Fountains". At the time, the DSLR revolution was just beginning. Various cameras were tested over time to achieve the look in the film. We tested and used the Canon HV20/30/40, Panasonic GH1/2, Canon 5d Mark 1/7D among others. There were custom rigs built for camera movement. Various C-mount lenses were adapted for the GH1/GH2. After a long journey, the film was released in July 2025.

The filming in Hyde Park, involved a long rubber hose filled with air, functioning as a circular camera track. Special VFX was used to create the look for the Bolero/Rumba dance sequence. Custom cranes, sliders and camera equipment were created in a backyard.

Told through expressive dance sequences and heartfelt storytelling, “Romancing Sydney” follows six individuals as they embrace their emotions and destinies across Sydney.

The silver screen is set to sparkle as “Romancing Sydney” twirls into town, gliding on a breeze of elegance, wit, and a wink that would make even Fred Astaire tip his top hat.

This feature is a cocktail of romance, rhythm, and ravishing style. Think love letters danced across sandstone streets, think Love Actually with dance pieces.

And darling, the choreography! If you like your love stories with a side of salsa and your dialogue as crisp as a creased tuxedo, this one's got your number. The leads don’t just fall in love—they waltz into it. You can almost hear the tap of nostalgia in every scene, echoing down the lanes of old-school charm. You can half expect Ginger to pop out from behind a tree.

The music? Pure velvet. Original ballad numbers blend with re-imagined classics, delivering toe-tapping magic that would make even the koalas start clapping in time.

The costumes? Satin, sparkle, and just a whisper of rebellion. From fountain soirées to fantasy ballrooms, it's a parade of panache that makes you want to dust off your tails and take a twirl.

And let’s not forget the city herself! Sydney is no backdrop, no sir. She’s a full-blown co-star. Every shimmering shot says, “Come dance with me,” and boy, do they ever.

So grab your partner—romantic, platonic, or purely popcorn—and waltz your way to the nearest cinema. "Romancing Sydney" isn’t just a film. It’s a feeling. It’s the sound of love in 3/4 time. It’s a love letter delivered in steps instead of stamps.

And as we always say—if you're not dancing, you're just standing in someone else's spotlight.
