Rom Con
Fleabag meets Mindy in our hero JANHAVI, a 30-something, reluctantly attending a two-day Romance Convention for single, successful desis of “marriage-age” arranged by her family friends.
Once there, Janhavi befriends fellow bride-pursuant SANTOSH, who indulges her wit and crude humor with an ease that hints at a possibility for more between them.
After the speed-dating style meet-and-greet during the day, Janhavi and other women at the convention seek refuge in the bathroom as they get ready for the night’s more fancy event. The new friends of varying ages and priorities have a conversation about finding love, pleasing parents, career choices… and the obstacles of navigating both American and Indian cultures, expectations, and identities.
At the fancy night party, Janhavi reconnects with Santosh. She tells him she’s interested in the PROFESSOR, a bookish academic teaching Bollywood films to college students. The Professor, though, calls Janhavi out in front of everyone. He reads right through her humor to the heartbreak she’s attempting to hide.
Will Janhavi’s defenses finally fall and allow her to find new love? Or will this Rom Con just prove itself to be another wrong place to find love?

Brittany Ramjattan is a New York-based writer, filmmaker, and photographer. She prefers to use the term “storyteller” to describe her profession and completely acknowledges that she’s pretentious for this decision. While her MFA from Stony Brook University is in Television Writing, she's most confident in her ability to maximize caffeine input in a single sitting. Her work often comprises articles about global coffee consumption, blogposts about the latest beauty trends, and comedic teleplays relishing in the joys and pains of being part of her sprawling Indo-Caribbean family.
Andrew Beguin is a Swiss-American Filmmaker and aspiring TV Writer working in New York. He has produced multiple independent feature films including the award winning NOWHERE, MICHIGAN, which he also wrote, and is being distributed by Gravitas Ventures. At present, Andrew has finished his MFA in TV Writing at Stony Brook University. He is married to Brittany Ramjattan.
