Director Biography - Rok Rozman, Rožle Bregar

Rožle Bregar is a professional filmmaker, photographer, traveler and mountain lover. After retiring from competitive sport climbing, photography and filming became his main priorities in life. He graduated from the Institute and Academy of Multimedia in Ljubljana and has made several commercial films and award-winning documentaries, most recently On, In & Under the Sava (2023, 5") and One for the River: The Sava Story (2022, 84”) both on his home river in Slovenia.

Rok Rozman grew up exploring, fishing and kayaking on the Sava River. After retiring from a professional rowing career, he became a biologist, travelled the world with his whitewater kayak and eventually started the river conservation movement Balkan River Defence and multi-dimension NGO, Leeway Collective. Rok produced and wrote the narration for this film as well as for On, In & Under the Sava (2023, 5"), One for the River: The Sava Story (2022, 84”) and The Vjosa Story (2016, 29”).

Leeway Collective is the confluence of sport, river conservation, film production and common sense that uses unconventional means to promote and protect the last remaining wild places of Europe. We tell stories that inspire critical thinking and action.

Director Statement

The featured crew is united by love. Love of paddling, of cold brews, of tasty food, love of good times. It is the river that can provide all of the above, but in order to do so, one needs to unite two otherwise very separate words – kayaking and flyfishing. Connected with every element that makes them so cool, this combination mentally proves to be both challenging and fun, complicated and simple and eye opening. Get ready to get hooked!
