Director Statement

The genesis of Roached stems from the fundamental question of what it truly means to be human. Anuradha's situation is unfortunately still prevalent in large sections of our society. Disturbing news stories about domestic violence among couples stuck together during the lockdown were some of the ugliest side effects of the COVID pandemic. I attempted to delve into one such scenario albeit with a layer of magic realism. On it's surface, Roached is a "what if" fairytale. Peel the layers and there is an underlying subtext about humanity, courage and facing your fears that I've tried to infuse it with.

This was unlike any film I have previously attempted and making it certainly has drained a large chunk of my life force out of me. With our tiny budget, basic equipment and small crew, it almost seemed like an impossible dream to bring this story to life. That's where my team came to my rescue, pushing me on when I lost faith, holding my hand at every step and dedicating themselves wholeheartedly towards the goal of making this film.

While every filmmaker hopes that their film finds love from the viewer, with this one I also hope that the viewer can somewhat connect to what lies beneath the surface of this film.

I also hope all Anuradhas everywhere get the fairtytale endings they deserve and all Manavs everywhere attempt to make a deeper connection with their humane side.
