Made her first film at the age of 14, Nischhal has always been crazy enough to believe that she can change the world and one way she attempts to do that is through her films. A writer and director, Nischhal takes her inspiration from society and tells stories that depict the reality of the world we all live in. A graduate of MetFilm School, London, she has made several short films and ad films and has recently completed her latest film that tells a tale of a mundane life of domesticity. She is currently working on the development of a long term project.
Housewives in both films and in real life often go unnoticed. Most films in the past have depicted them as loving mothers or sacrificing wives or other times as superheroes saving the day. But I want to change this. I believe it's important that we see their struggle on screen.
I want to show housewives for who they truly are - women with dreams and desires. I want to show them as independent individuals who, if it wasn't for the structure and nature of our society, might be living their lives differently, in their own ways.
Rimi is a portrayal of what domesticity and patriarchy does to people, especially housewives. It changes them and their lives in ways they aren't even aware of. With the use of minimal dialogue, this story aims to bring out the mundanity of Rimi's life as well as the absence of love, care and attention from it. So finally, when someone sees her for who she truly is - in a way she too has been conditioned to overlook, something changes.
With the overarching theme of domesticity, the story also explores underlying themes of marriage, self-discovery and sexuality.
