Rev. Marvin Chandler: Open to the Moment
"…just being in his presence makes everybody better. Better
musicians, better persons. We know we’re in good hands."
Everett Greene
When we first met Marvin, we couldn't believe how incredible his life has been! Everyone who meets him, loves him. He has done so much in sharing his gifts from God. Everyone should get to know him.
Rev. Chandler first played piano at the age of four in his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Since that time, he never stopped sharing his love of music, commitment to justice, and passion for ministry. During his career Rev. Chandler served as pastor at Second Baptist Church in Bloomington, the Second Baptist Church in LeRoy, New York, and the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco. In addition, he was involved, through the Rochester, New York Council of Churches in reconciliation discussions during riots in Rochester in 1964. He also served as a negotiator during the riots at Attica Prison in 1971. He was inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation Hall of Fame in 2003 and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Franklin College in 2008.
These awards and others only hint at the qualities that make Rev. Marvin Chandler a man that is loved and admired by all.
