Director Statement

After nearly two years of isolation, we were very eager to get back together and work on our art. Rocío wanted to promote their fight skills, and I wanted to direct and edit an action sequence, having never done so before.

We enlisted the expertise of David Anzuelo, an accomplished Fight Director and founder of UnkleDave’s Fighthouse. He was incredibly enthusiastic, as he had long desired to create stories that center BIPOC/LGBTQ protagonists as action heroes, an ethos that Rocío and I share in all of our work. We made a great Producing team.

So the seed of Retribution’s Child was planted!

We then recruited some of our best Actor/Combatant friends and crew, and put it together. It was very challenging, having never done a piece like this before, and also incredibly rewarding. We were able to be active together, creative together, and simply be together after having not seen or worked with each other in so long. I think that’s what makes this film so important to me.

We had so much fun making this, and hope you have the same fun watching it!
