Skylar Anderson is a young filmmaker that has made many different type of projects; including: short films, music videos, commercials, feature films, & documentaries. He has been interested in filmmaking and the film industry since he was a kid. After enrolling in a film course at his high school. His career was already starting by working for his instructors. He would later attend a university in Santa Fe, New Mexico to major in film but, later that school would close its doors. Now attending Sam Houston State University for its new BFA Film program he is hoping to make a positive impact on people's lives through filmmaking.
This odd film I made in a quick turn around happened through several different inspirations. These include two main situations I have been in. One, I was in a Theatre class in college and this group was assigned an interesting skit where there is someone trying to go to the restroom but is being harassed by some religious person stopping them. I thought this was a neat concept using the restroom as the main setting of my film. As a student filmmaker you don't really see many people using the potential of a claustrophobic restroom in their film. However, many of the shots in my film are shot with a 14mm lens to distort the frame. My second situation was the driving factor of creating this idea. One day my friend at college wanted to go to his favorite place to eat...Chili's (which is horrible). While we are there our waiter was great! The guy was super entertaining and all. After getting our check I went to the restroom and our waiter was in there as well. Strangely enough he started trying to spark up a casual conversation. I was kinda weirded out by this, but carried on. That's when I came up with my film idea. At first all the cast was going to be males. Then I started thinking about gender equality one day and thought why I didn't have a female character in my film. So that's when I made the female character be the one that walks into the restroom. I also wanted to make the story very vague for the audience so that the film is ultimately open to interpretation. However, my main goal with the film is to shed light on that same thing that made me have a female character; gender equality. By this it explains why she comes in as this man is using the urinal. The lighting design was also well thought out and each color has meaning. In addition to the outside world having only natural colors while the restroom is almost like another universe.
