Private Project

Reputation

Reputation. It’s everything. For drug dealer Wes (James Nelson-Joyce), it’s something which will test him to the limit. With more and more residents in Dennings getting hooked on "Clown" – a new form of ecstasy – it’s 30-year-old Wes who’s cashing in. He’s happy keeping the operation small in his rough-and-ready home town; but when partner-in-crime Tommy (Kyle Rowe) returns from a short stint in prison, Wes starts to question if this life is for him anymore.

Director Statement

'Reputation' has been over 10 years in development. The script has been nurtured organically over that time, always intended to be made independently on a "nano budget". I plan to document the making of the film, as well as look at other case studies (such as Gareth Tunley's BAFTA-nominated debut feature film 'The Ghoul'), in an educational book on ultra-low budget filmmaking.

Raw, violent and darkly comic, influences on this psychological crime drama include 'Dead Man’s Shoes', 'Bully', 'Shooters' and 'Shifty'. This is a gritty northern drama; an intimate look at loyalty, greed and power in Broken Britain. I believe that audiences have become bored of superhero movies and they're crying out for this type of film.

'Reputation' has been proudly shot across my home county of Lancashire, UK, and it is my debut feature film.
