Director Statement

"Remains" is a micro-budget contained horror film about the dangers of compartmentalizing grief. Themes of death, grief, and loss are nothing new for the horror genre, but this project aims to explore a specific and taboo topic: pregnancy and infant loss, especially for single mothers. Many women face their grief in these situations alone with a sense of isolation and nobody to turn to. That isolation is something we hoped to capture here, largely in the absence of dialogue. The capacity for short films, especially those in the horror genre, to tell stories through images alone is a testament to the power of the medium and something I've always found compelling.

"Remains" was my thesis film as an undergraduate cinema and photography student in the Fall of 2022.
