Remain

Remain is a narrative, single-channel stop motion animation which speaks on the sudden death of a loved one in daily life by exploring themes such as child innocence, abandonment, and acceptance. The film follows a daughter and father playing during everyday life, until the father suddenly disappears out of thin air, in which the daughter learns to accept the loss as she did not get the chance to say goodbye. The bedsheet ghost trope is a whimsical visual representation of the “limbo stage” in which the father had passed away due to his alcoholism, but the daughter was not yet made aware. Remain uses it’s childlike aesthetic to explore the sudden death of a father through the eyes of a young daughter.
