As a producer and a filmmaker, she loves creating and editing stories, and casting the projects. She is a solution-seeker and sees the bigger picture. Last year she produced an award-winning romantic drama, The Vow, which had a mostly Asian American cast, international crew, and won Best Short Film Drama at Burbank International Film Festival 2018.
Red String of Fate is based on a feature length script about two people whose lives and souls are so intertwined that they are drawn to each other throughout the years. This short film is the genesis of the story. I wanted the viewers to fall in love with the characters as they discover that fate connects them. It's a soulmate story, a leap of faith story. Two characters from the past, meet in the present, to figure out their future, putting their hearts on the line and risking their futures as well.
This story is near and dear to me as I have met multiple soulmates and have had many long distance relationships, and being a hopeful romantic, I wanted this film to be a love letter to my hometown of Kazan, where I studied for a year, just like Stella. This film is an intersection of my memories of the city with the "what if's" of love and fate. Ones familiar with the romantic films will feel my influences from films like Love Me If You Dare, Before Sunrise, and Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.
When I tell people about this short film, they tell me it reminds them of their life. I have met many couples who have experienced a soulmate connection and have had long distance relationships. They get so happy to find out someone else understands the journey they have been through. I hope everyone who sees this film will see themselves in it and it leaves them happy and hopeful about their future as well.
