Iranian actor and filmmaker was born in Rasht, Iran. She began her artistic career in 2015 with theater. Following that, she was accepted into Tehran University of Art, ranking 7th nationwide in cinema with a focus on directing.
Prior to making this film, she appeared as an actor in over ten short films and has written several screenplays. Additionally, she has been involved in both long and short film projects as a photographer, assistant director, and planner.
This is her first short film made as a student.
Throughout my life in Iran, I faced constant suppression from my family and society whenever I expressed my true desires. This movie represents the ultimate form of repression: the murder of a child by their parents. It is based on a true event that occurred in my neighborhood.
The fear and terror experienced by women in Iran is deeply rooted in historical and cultural oppression. Family murders, driven by honor prejudices or differences in opinion, are disturbingly common in our society. These oppressive structures begin with the family, extend to the school, permeate society, and are enforced by the government. Disobedience is often met with severe punishment, including death. Many children live in fear of physical violence from schools and families, with parents having legal authority over them.
The character Alma in this film parallels the real-life experience of Iranian director Babak Khorramdin. Both are victims of a cultural clash between generations. Babak's family rejected him due to his ideology and lifestyle, while Alma's family failed to provide a safe space for her to be herself.
Creating this film helped me recognize and accept my own experiences as a woman in Iran. It allowed me to confront and break the taboo of discussing family oppression, challenging the sanctity of the family in Iranian culture. This film aims to open the door for further dialogue and understanding.
