Director Biography - Livvy Edwards

Livvy is a VFX Coordinator by day, and a Writer/Director by night. Constantly flitting between London and Kent, Livvy has worked in film/TV for 8 years in VFX Production, working at companies such as DNeg and Framestore before going freelance in 2022. Her VFX credits include Greenland: Migration (2026), Doctor Who (2023-2024), The Little Mermaid (2023), and Avenue 5 season 2. Her experience working in VFX has given her a sharp eye as a Director, and an understanding of the production process from start to finish.

Her short film Aetherium (2024) saw success with screenings as Romford Horror Festival, Black Sunday Film Festival, and Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival, earning a Best Director nomination at the latter. In 2024 she directed a proof of concept historical drama about 16th and 17th century European Witch Trials. Her latest short, Red City, stars Tim Downie and frequent collaborator Ashley Goh, which is in early development as a feature film. Livvy’s work primarily falls within gothic fiction, exploring themes of mortality, humanity, and the haunting nature of time ruining us all. With a little hint of eyebrow raising relationships between older men and younger women.

Director Statement

Red City is a story that speaks to my lifelong love of vampires and gothic horror, as well as my experience of complex relationships with older men as a young woman. I wanted to explore this through the lens of two vampires because the concept of immortality added to a pseudo father-daughter relationship gives the performances in the film more nuance and gravitas that you wouldn’t necessarily see elsewhere.

“Time is wrapped around us” - a phrase uttered by the lead male character Caecilius Iucundus (played by Tim Downie) sums up the dynamic between him and Clara Southwood (played by Ashley Goh), and the very human nature of questioning the time we have on Earth. Everyone often feels like they’re running out of time whereas vampires have all the time in the world. How does an infinite amount of time impact their relationship and how they view themselves?
