Red And The Others
"Red And The Others" is a short film about a young woman named Hazel who is given the identity of Red 251 and a corresponding monochromatic red bedroom. This single-colour dominated space, however, makes her feel uncomfortable and like an imposter. Exploring other rooms, reserved for specific identities, sparks an idea for Hazel to construct her identity the way she wants to, how she feels is right. It is a film centred on individuality, self-expression and creativity.

Best Short Film of the Month [South African]
Talitha Neville is the director and screenwriter of Red And The Others. Originally from Cape Town, she has also lived in eSwatini and Johannesburg. Studying film was the next step for Talitha, who had spent her high school years making short films and learning all that she could about filmmaking. The themes of individuality and self-expression in Red And The Others hold personal significance for her. They echo a narrative she has observed around her and experienced first hand - the social pressure to conform to a particular identity and the experience of not belonging in that identity. This is what she strives to highlight through this film.
