Reconquest, Scalabrini Ortiz´s newspaper

Surveyor, writer, researcher, journalist, poet, engineer: national thinker. A necessary look at the distinctive political thought of Raúl Scalabrini Ortiz, who combined his exhaustive analysis of railway balance sheets and rates with his sensitivity to what he called "the spirit of the land."
One of the key ideologues of the national program during the period between Yrigoyen and Perón, he was never affiliated with either party, nor did he accept any state positions from the latter. In the words of Norberto Galasso, his biographer, "a poet of politics." In the words of Arturo Jauretche, his friend, "Scalabrini was the one who took us from abstract anti-imperialism to concrete anti-imperialism."
This documentary focuses on one of his greatest aspirations: to have his own newspaper. A truly national and independent media outlet, one that challenged the dominant media of its time, that bore the name of its independent publishing house, its political program for the future, and ultimately, its battle cry: Reconquest.

Director Biography - Ariel Martinez Herrera

Professional scriptwriter and filmmaker, born in Argentina. With a background in illustration and photography, I became a cameraman and DoP, while at the same time started Grandes Exitos, a studio to write and produce animation projects, that later developed to writing and producing from web series to features like, Tóxico (2020) No me dejaron llorar (2021) and Reconquista (2025), and all the way to advertisment work, we are always looking for a fresh mesh of techniques to tell the story. Resident in Belgium since 2023.

Director Statement

What drove me to Raul Scalabrini Ortiz was the really rare combination of a fine historian, a great economist, a lucid pollitical strategist, and a sensitive poet. This film is about that poet´s description of 1930`s Argentina. He studied the numbers, he walked the land, and delivered a description of a contry still looking for it´s independence.
