Arun Vaidyanathan – Filmmaker, Mentor, Visionary Storyteller

Born in Sirkali, Tamil Nadu, Arun Vaidyanathan’s creative journey began early—with a passion for performance arts like music, dance, and mimicry. As a college student, he
honed his writing skills, contributing thought-provoking articles to popular Tamil magazines. His flair for storytelling found its way to television, where he worked with leading channels such as Sun TV and Raj TV.

After completing his MCA, Arun began his professional career at Polaris Software Labs, which brought him to the United States. There, he pursued his true calling by enrolling in
the New York Film Academy, where he formally trained in filmmaking.

Arun's early short films made waves internationally, earning official selection in TriggerStreet—a platform founded by Academy Award-winner Kevin Spacey and Dana
Brunetti. His acclaimed short The Séance was a finalist in the Sundance Channel's “Next
Generation of Filmmakers” competition.

His debut feature film, Achchamundu! Achchamundu!, boldly tackled the sensitive topic of
pedophilia and received widespread critical acclaim. The film won Best Feature at the
Chennai International Film Festival and Garden State Film Festival, and was screened at
IFFI Goa, Cairo International Film Festival, and other prestigious global venues.
Arun went on to produce the Tamil romantic comedy Kalyana Samayal Saadham, directed
by RS Prasanna. He also penned special dialogues for the film, earning high praise from the
legendary Crazy Mohan, who called it “the most professional set, thanks to producer Arun
Vaidyanathan.” The film’s massive success led to a Hindi remake titled Shubh Mangal
Saavdhan, produced by Aanand L. Rai. RS Prasanna, whom Arun mentored from the start,
continues to credit him for launching his career—most recently directing a feature with
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
Arun then directed Peruchazhi, a political satire starring Malayalam icon Mohanlal, shot
predominantly in the USA. This was followed by the bilingual thriller Nibunan/Vismaya,
featuring Action King Arjun Sarja in his landmark 150th film. The critically acclaimed film
was a commercial success, with its Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions amassing over 60
million views combined.
His most recent venture, Shot Boot Three, is a heartfelt children’s film that became a
festival favorite—winning Best Feature Film awards in Nepal, Atlanta, South Korea, and
Canada.
Arun Vaidyanathan continues to be a driving force in Indian and international cinema—
celebrated for his bold themes, cross-cultural storytelling, and unwavering commitment to
cinematic excellence.
